GFX issues with new pc
Hi all, ive recently built up a new PC, but am experiencing graphics problems that occur on a regular basis (by which i mean once every 30 mins or so, maybe more during high activity) my screen has a bad habit of locking up, then once it starts moving again the images are TOTALLY garbled, and dont correct themselves until i minimise GW totally, then open it up again. There also appears to be some kind of static-ish noise coming from my gfx card when i put it under load (when im just surfing the net its fine, when i open up GW the noise starts) As im not sure where this problem lies, this is the full spec of my comp, if anyone has any suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated!
Antec 900 case
Asus P5KC mobo
500gb hdd
Geil 2gb pc6400 ram
Corsair 620w modular psu
Gainward Bliss 8800Gt Golden Sample 1gb gfx
6750 Dual Core processor (unclocked)

The symptoms make it sound like your video card may be overheating. You should be able to find your video card temperature by starting the Nvidia control panel and go to monitor temperature levels.

Also, make sure theres no wires obstructing your graphic card's fan. Fan speed increases under load, and if you're hearing some sort of noise, it could mean a wire or two, maybe a loose sticker, is striking the fan blades.

im on windows xp sp2, fully updated and the card is a gainward bliss 8800gt golden sample 1gb...the driver version i have for that is 169.21, which is what nVidia and gainward claim to be the most recent. As for wires and fans etc, the noise sounds more electronic than physical, and this card is passive cooled, so has copper piping and a heatsink type system but no fan as such.

44C under load with passive cooling? That sounds too good to be true, but who knows...

It's not impossible, if you live in a cold area of the world or have your AC on even the most powerful/hot video cards can get temperatures like that.
As for the OP I've never heard of such things.. maybe using google to search for some random forum with people who have that same card could help you troubleshoot.

gotta admit i was surprised myself when i saw the temps on my card, but those readings come from the nTune software AND the Xpertool that shipped with the card, so i have no reason to doubt them. The case (Antec 900) is obv helping a lot, has the big 30cm top mounted fan, and assorted others...plus with the Tuniq variable cpu cooler i can assure you the air coming out of this thing is arctic ^ ^ ive tried basic searches under heading s such as '8800gt errors/problems' etc, but not really had much joy

as i posted 2 messages ago, im on windows xp sp2 id have thought that the current driver, not including betas, should be the most reliable version at the minute? maybe i should attach a few screenshots so that you can see the problems ive been having

errr nvidia has released crap drivers in the last few months the 171 series driver however isn't coded by nvidia but by another company and to be honest they did a damn fine job at it but yes there is a full version of that one aswell (171.17) and 174.xx(the latest beta(don't know how that one runs haven't tested it yet))
Hope that helps you out ghostly
